Smoothening bolt action triggers

I got a couple Mauser designed rifles (1903...K98..) and I was wondering if there was a simple way of smoothening or reducing the trigger pull on these rifles.
There must be a way to fix that long pull

The military Mauser triggers are two stage triggers which naturally have a long pull until you hit the second stage. There are plenty of aftermarket single stage triggers if you prefer those, Timney being the most well known.

If it were mine, I would not mess with the trigger, just replace it. Two-stage triggers have so much travel you feel like they are never going to go off, and you will have trouble getting a clean release.

OK trigger- Bold trigger from Boyds Gunstocks, right around $35-ish.
Good trigger- Timney or Rifle Basix, right around $90-ish.
Great trigger- Jewell or NECG, $150-ish to $200-ish.

There is a trigger available called the Huber Trigger that will make your two-stage trigger pretty nice from what I have been told, but I have not tried one yet.

Scorch gives good advice, but there is another way - learn how to use a two stage trigger. You take up the slack to the end of the first stage and then squeeze off. FWIW, some of the finest marksmen in the world fired military rifles with two stage pulls.

As I get older I find hitting a mini ram at 200 yards with the 22 oddly more satisfying.
