Mossberg 500 - Front bead on HD barrel fell out

Anyone had this happen? Shot it for the first time finally and apparently the recoil popped it out and we couldn't find it.

Since it came out, I'm thinking its a good excuse to upgrade. I'm thinking about one of the MeproLight tritium sights, anyone have experience with them?

I haven't used those in particular, but I have used something similar on my shotgun I use for clays. I found that it really doesn't make a difference for me.

You should be looking at the target. I had the one that just snaps on the vent rib and it fell off. It took me several shots to even notice. I didn't bother putting it back on because it really doesn't make a difference to me.

At night it MIGHT be better, but you still need light and it you have light you can see your target, therefore its not necessary on a shotgun in my opinion.

For night HD I'd probably use my pistol and flashlight anyway. The tritium is mainly for dusk practice/fun shooting.

I have something similar on my Mossberg 500 (was on it when I bought it). It is a white dot sight instead of a night sight, bit it is the same shape as what you linked. Problem is, they never line up correctly when they are tightened all the way, they are always canted to one side. That makes you have to locktite them when they are straight and not all the way tight, which makes them fall off after a while (locktite works best on something tightened down).

I would just buy a replacement brass bead sight, put a dab of locktite on it and tighten it real good. They are cheap and effective (ten times less then a fancy night sight..)

If it's too loose for Loctite Threadlocker Red, get some Loctite retaining compound. It will not shoot loose without heat.

Go with the brass bead and some loctite.

Very simple and effective.

Ya, for how cheap a brass bead is I think I'm just going to go that route. Still amazed it happened with a brand new gun.
