I knew I wasn't the only one!
Actually, I have passed up guns because I didn't want to "tool up" for another caliber!
On the other hand, some of them I bought the dies well before getting a gun. 7.7mm Jap was one. A friend had some he needed ammo for, and I just happened to find the dies (used & cheap). Loaded for his rifles for a couple of years before I got one of my own. Also, I have a number of dies for which I don't have guns anymore. They don't take up much room, and they don't spoil. So I keep them (usually) when I sell the gun. Because it usually works out that sooner or later I get another gun in that caliber. About 20 years ago I though I was done with the .357Mag. Sold my Model 19, and gave/traded all my brass and bullets to a friend. kept the dies. Couple of years later, there she was, a new in the box Model 28 (6") with target trigger and hammer. Guess what? I was back in the .357 business again! Did almost the same thing with the 6.5x55 Swede. Had a nice little carbine, traded it to a friend for a couple cords of wood (and he needed a deer rifle). Years later, I got one of the long rifles (1917 date), and was able to load something to feed it. For those who think they are "behind", your not, you are just starting later.

FirstFreedom:
You are correct, all are .224, I screwed up , I apparently did a brain phart as I started off the list mentally with the 223. I have, however, loaded a true .223 for a friend, 22 Hornet - his dies-bullets-brass -powder-primer---my press, but didn't include it in my list. I also did not include shotgun loadings, as I was not thinking gauge, but include 12ga, 16ga, and 20ga.

Two, I suppose, but that's only if you consider .38Spl and .357 Magnum two different calibers. Since I can use the same dies, that may not count as two.

I'm the lightweight here, but oh well.
I am currently loading for these calibers: 1) 38 spl, mostly 158 grain Ranier's on top of 4.5 grains of Unique, good +P load. 2) 40 S&W, mostly 155 grain and 165 grain Rainier's, 6.5 grains and 6 grains of Unique respectively. 3) 357 Mag, 125 grain Rem. SJHP's with 9.5 grains of Unique, 158 grain Rem. JSP's with 16.6 grains of 296, and 158 grain Rainier's with 7 grains of Unique, my target load. When I'm done loading, which will be in the next couple of month's, I will have 2500 rounds of 357 and 6000 rounds of 40 S&W loaded. |
