A semi-auto AA12 would be no cooler than a Benelli or Beretta Semi-Auto.

You know you aren't getting an FA one so who cares if they make it available to civvys?

The saiga 12 is just as capable, more affordable, and you can buy one right now. They won't make a civilian version because the price point and sales volumes aren't feasible.
Actually, given the fact that you are neutering the FA capabilities of the AA12, I think I'd prefer a saiga as they are much less cumbersome and offer the same level of firepower.

Forget civillian, has there been a millitary or police service that's purchased the AA-12? As near as I can tell, hollywood's been the only major purchaser of that gun.

Probably not. Open bolt semiautomatics are generally considered a big no-no.

Converting one to fire one from a closed bolt would require significant redesign efforts. Also, the low recoil likely results from open bolt operation.

If a civilian version were available, it would stand a fair chance of being classified a DD.

As far as i'm concerned the AA12 was a solution looking for a problem from the start. Everyone I've talked to that served in the military said shotguns were only used for breaching doors and their 870's were perfectly acceptable for that.

Why not go with that new KSG that has 2 magazine tubes? That way you are getting a gun with nothing really missing from the civilian version...

After having a SPAS 12 and a Benelli M1 Super 90, I'll stick with the Benelli.
Even the Benelli takes some practice to fully utilize. The SPAS is even tougher to gain competency. The handbook for the SPAS starts with "Honestly, have you fully read...", and they ain't kidding.
