40 cal and 9mm revolvers

Hey everybody,

I have been looking for my choices in 9mm or 40 cal revolvers. So far I have found the Smith 610 and Ruger Vaquero for 40 cal and a Taurus 905 for 9mm. Anyone know what else would be out there that I haven't run into yet?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Ruger used to make a SP-101 in 9mm but they are fairly rare on the used market. S&W also made some limited runs of 9mm revolvers. Again, hard to find and will demand a premium if the seller knows what he's got.
I have a 610 and LOVE IT. You can practice with low cost 40 and switch to full house 10mm when you need the power. Shoots 40 very accurately too. If you reload, you can develop some wild loads for either size as the frame and cylinder was originally designed for 44 mag and now there is even more steel around the chambers. Full moon clips make for very fast reloads. Don't forget the 625 as a companion to a 1911.

Current production is only the S&W 610, Taurus 905, Ruger Blackhawk Convertible 9mm.

Used you can find the S&W 646 in .40S&W, S&W 940 and 547 in 9mm, Ruger Speed Six and SP101 in 9mm, Ruger Vaquero in .40S&W. They're all pricey thanks to current demand.

The Charter offering is on the waaay back burner, they don't even have it on they're website anymore.

You can search the used market for S&W 547 and 940 in 9 mm. These are becoming pricey though. Ruger made the Speed Six in 9mm; maybe the Service Six and Security Six as well. The Ruger SP101 was also made in 9 mm and the Single Six with a 9 mm conversion cylinder. I think Taurus made 9 mm in other models than the 905, but am not certain. Uncertain of any .40s other than the S&W 610.

Interesting. A .22 LR with a 9MM Conversion cylinder? Not sure how they would do that. Do you mean the Blackhawk?

I have seen pictures of a Taurus .40 wheelgun, but AFAIK very, very few are out there. It may not even be an official product, but a prototype that somehow "escaped".

Smith & Wesson Model 547, 9mm Luger, no moon clips required. Both are expensive, both are really neat revolvers rated up to Plus P. $800-$1000

4-inch Square butt (rarest)

3-inch Round Butt

Same 3-in with Hogue Bantam knuckle savers

I don't like moon clips.

Moon clips are great! Quicker to load and unload. Speedloaders are slow by comparison and only help in one direction. But I shouldn't try to convince you, more for the rest of us.

Unfortunately, S&W have again discontinued the 610. The only 10mm/40 S&W they offer now is the 310 Night Guard.

I think they do it to drive up the demand! Actually, there isn't that much demand for the 10mm compared to the other N frame calibers and they can only devote so much shop time to making the 610.
