Hornady 240 grain XTP

I used the 240 XTP Hornady in my S&W 460 V magnum last year - Shot a 6 pointer while bedded at 73 yards using a scope and shooting stick for brace - Bullet enetered left front shoulder, went through chest cavity, heart and was found intact inside its stomache. The deer ran, Erh! Tumbled about 20 yards down a hill and was dead by the time I got to him. I was quite happy with this performance - Had thought about a heavier bullet, but glad I didn't go there = More recoil and wasn't needed. I've got a .454 but never hunted with it so I dunno. If I did, I'd probably just use .45 colt, 250 gr magtechs or these gun show reloads in .45 colt with 240 gr hornady xtps (already mentioned). If I was going after elk, I'd go ahead and pump it up to .454s of some type.

I used the 240 grain XTP's mentioned above to great effect on two NC whitetails. The first folded in mid step. The second died on the second bound after I hit it. Rolled into a dry creekbed. Very nasty and effective rounds.

I usually shoot either a 240 or 300 gr XTP or just a hardcast 310 gr LBT and put it through the shoulders. They don't go anywhere.
