Anyone use 777 in the 1858 ?
I really like FFF 777 for my Lyman 50 Cal. GPR
Getting a new Pietta 1858 and would like to use the 777 for that as well. So anyone using the 777 ? If so what charge ?

I use 20 grains of Triple 7 FFFG in my Pietta 1858. It shoots reliably and groups well. I certainly won't claim that is the optimum charge, though; since that is the only charge I have used since buying the gun new in December.
I also shoot Triple 7 in my Lyman GPR; but I use FFG in it instead of FFFG.

I've never tried 777 all I ever used was pyrodex p since it was all I could get. Luckily just the other day a friend that lives about 10 miles down the road from me gave me two pounds of goex fffg for free. He said it's was to messy and cost to much to get (hazmat fee) so I was glad to take it. He said he used 777 because you could get it at the local gun store plus it burnt alot cleaner. He was shooting the ROA so if it works for him I'm sure it would work for you.

Triple 7
I use both Triple 7 and Pyrodex P. Normally 25-35 grains. I can't tell the difference. Both work great. Did try Pyrodex 30 gr pellets and had some ignition problems.

Go to the Hodgdon website, look up 777, and read the recommendations for 777 in the Remington design.
That's the best bet.

25 grains of 777 hits point of aim and is very clean.
No stinkie, either. Nice white clouds, though. It does need cleanup, like BP, or gun will rust. |
