rem 512 assembly help

I need help on reassembly of a remington 512, I can't figure out how to get the thing to sequence right for lack of a better word. I am or I was pretty sure I have it assembled properly the thing has been apart for a long time I don't think it's missing anything I think I may not be timing the thing right as to putting the bolt in and the feeding mechanism position.
please and thank you. It's got me whipped.

Here is a thread with a pretty good picture of the parts. You can also Google "Remington 512". Those guns are pretty simple but can be tricky; mostly it is just a matter of getting the parts in right.

I got a Rem 512 three years ago for $60 and refinished it.
I have never been able to get it to feed shorts smoothly.
But it works well with long rifle ammo.

Here are two pics, one with the bolt open and one with the bolt closed.
