I think it has already been said. AA#7 is the best powder for major loads in 38 super other than Winchester Action Pistol (which isn't made anymore, except by Ramshot in a Silhouette container)

I use it for 10mm, 357 Sig, and .44 mag.

I like AA7 for my 9mm, 8.0 gr w/124 gr and 7.2gr w/147gr Jacketed bullets. These are listed max loads but show NO signs of pressure, relatively low flash, low smoke, and don't smell to bad either.

$7/lb for pistol powder is not bad, it is Fantastic!

I shot them today. 10.0 grains of the surplus #7 with 158 grain cast bullets in .38 Special brass (this is a .357 Magnum or .38-44HV load, probably not safe in a .38 Special) and fired them in a 4" Ruger Security Six. Twelve shots made a 3" group at 50 feet from a standing 2-hand grip. The recoil was just a little less than factory .357 loads (158 grain JSP). I shot the rest of them at the metal plates. The cases dropped out the chambers easily, and the brass and the primers look good.

When I got home and cleaned the gun, the leading was pretty bad but it cleaned up OK without too much scrubbing. Gonna try it again using better bullets to see if it reduces the leading. If not, I'll use the same load in .357 magnum brass, and top off the powder with a scoop of grits before I seat the bullets.

I should have bought 4 jugs of the stuff instead of just 2.
