Because I could......

Started as a Colt MKIV CCO ... Looked like this...

I sent it off to Wild West guns and had WildAlska, Jim and the boys do the following:

They installed a few new parts:

C&S tactical sear, hammer and disconnector.
C&S extractor
Ed Brown NM Trigger
ED Brown Ext Safety
Ed Brown Mainspring with 25 LPI Checkering
Trigger Job
Complete Dehorn
Refinish in Wilson Tuff Armor Black

Bob, Those words are well deserved. I never had the opportunity to see one of your guns in person. However, on the net they appear to be some of the nicest milspec customs I have ever seen.

When it comes to customizing 1911 it all depends what the user likes.
One may find they don't need to do anything to their gun but shoot it, but they also may want to personalize it a little.

Here's a couple pictures of a custom 1911 with a little bit different taste then the first one pictured.

It has several custom features that's obivious, one that's kind of unique is the front sight.
The blade is narrower at the top portion then it is at the bottom.

By the way this gun is not painted ( I will not paint a custom gun) this gun is blued.

This gun also has my fabricated small thumb safety.

It's obvious I must simply like your work.

I was paging down, just checking out pics. Got to your gun and said to myself, "Oh. That's pretty nice". Then, paged up to see who the gun belonged to, only to find out it was another one of yours.... Again, very nice.

I had the honors of having Bob check out my Colt 70 Series.

I feel happy about that alone lol.

Too bad I couldn't do the work though

for personal reasons.

Maybe one day. Who knows.

JohnO and Constantine, thanks again.

I posted the pictures of the second gun to show the difference in taste in custom guns.

The second gun is a custom build from the frame up.

The front sight on the second gun is more a Patridge style but the rear sight is still the smaller type sight.
No big blocky rear sight to obscure what you are shooting at.

The second gun has a beavertail grip safety, however it has no raised bump on the bottom of the grip safety.
The raised bump is not needed when shooting with a straight thumb under the thumb safety hand position, as this does not open your hand up away from the back of the gun gun like a thumb over the thumb safety hand position does.

The second gun has french borders and ball radius scallops at the spring tunnel on the slide, these are only cosmetic items that some like when they personalize their guns.

It has my "Speed Grip" front strap treatment like the first gun has, this does aid in getting a better grip on the gun.

This gun has smooth thin grips.

It also has a smooth mainspring housing like the first gun, this makes for a completely smooth back strap.

Along with all the other top shelf parts it took to build this gun it has a match grade barrel that I did a 11 degree crown on.

Everyone has an opinion of what they like or want on a 1911 pistol.
If you want to use one straight out of the box there's certainly nothing wrong with that, there's also nothing wrong with putting some custom touches on one if you prefer to do so.
In my opinion this is what makes the 1911 the greatest pistol design ever invented, I give my thanks to JMB.
