Handloads for 30-30 Thompson G-2

I have a Thompson G-2 30-30 with a 14 inch barrel. My question is, would I get better performance by using fast burning pistol powder because of the short barrel? Also does anyone have some loads they have found to be succesful for this gun?

NOT.
The powders than give the best performance in long barrels do the same in short barrels.

Thanks, so is there anything unique to these guns and how they perform with 30-30 ammo?

Here's your problem, if you use normal pistol powders you will have poor loading density and inconsistant pressures. Go with the usual rifle powders and now you have muzzle flash and a lot of unburned powder going out the barrel. For mine, I use the quicker rifle powders like AA2200 for most of my serious hunting loads. But I also use SR4759, which is a very bulky rifle powder but is quick like IMR 4227. For plinkers I get 17.0 grs of it and it is an 80% case fill. If you have any of it I would suggest starting with the SR4759. If you shoot at a local range that occasionally has a moron on the line. Load 35.0 grs of H335 behind a 110gr carbine bullet. Run a few of those thru the gun while the moron is on line with you- he won't be there long. The muzzle blast is painful for those along side of you. In mine, it shoots great and is a starting load- or at least that's my story.
