303 British stock removal

Good day all,
I just came into an old 303, and I would like to refurbish it. Can someone give me some insite into the remove of the stocks. The gun was made in 1943. If you need more info let me know and I will try and find it for you. Thanks for any and all help.

Which .303? A British Lee-Enfield? A British Rifle No, 4? A Martini Enfield? A Model 1914? A Savage lever action in .303 Savage? (Edited - OK, forget the last, you did say British.)

A better description or picture would help.

inj the butt stock where the cleaning kit goes, there is a hole all the way through where you will need an extension and a socket. i dont know which size though

The Lee Enfield uses a through-bolt in the stock that's accessed through the hole for the cleaning gear.

Remove the butt plate and use a hook to pull out the felt washer if its there.
Use a long, LARGE screwdriver, not a socket to unscrew the bolt.

my apologies. i ahvent ever taken on off. but saw it done. i thought it was a socket

OK, but if it is a Rifle No. 1, remove the forestock first, before removing the butt stock. The reason is that on the No. 1, the end of the stock bolt is squared off and fits into a square hole in the keeper in the rear of the forestock. Trying to remove the buttstock bolt without removing the forestock will be impossible or at least very difficult or worse, can result in breaking the stock bolt. (That site does remove the forestock before the buttstock, but doesn't indicate why it has to be done in that order.)

Thanks for everything, I have the gun disassembled, and all looks in great shape. The only thing lift is the front site. It was a British #4 Mark 1*.
