What barrel manufacturer would you use

I have found a Charles DAly imported Mini Mauser and I would like to turn $1000 in to a $400 rifle....

What Barrel would you suggest.

I am thinking about the following
Get the 223 action and making one of the following
221 fireball
222 rem
17 rem
204 ruger AKA Tactical 20
223 because ammo is so cheap.
6mm x 43
30 whisper

or
Get the 7,62 x 39 action and
7.62 x 39
6.5 grendel
6mm ppc

????
???

The small calibers would be great for varmints here in PA and the larger could be used for a light weight woods rifle for whitetail deer or coyotes

Charles Daly Mauser Action

I have plans of purchasing a 22 Hornet barreled action and then blowing out to a K-Hornet. I would also like to build a 17 K-Hornet on a CD Mauser action. Let us know what you decide and how the build goes. I hear the threading is a PITA.

.223. Make sure it is chambered and throated to accept 5.56 surplus.

I'd equip it with some sort of military style peep sights and a quick remove scope mount. A set up to use strippers would also be fun.

Honestly,

Any of the premium barrel manufactures will outshoot me. I have a Douglas on a Remington action that can shoot better than .75 with good 30-06 ammo. I have a Shillen in 300 Win Mag that is great. I have a Hart in 220 Swift that consistently does better than .66. I really think all of them can do better than I can. I really don't think you will go wrong. There are many others that I have not tried but maker really great barrels.

For .223 I like Krieger 1 in 7.75 twist barrels for the heavy bullets (75 and 80 grain) but mind the throat length. Must be throated longer for heavy bullets.

75 and 80 grain bullets work for varmints, coyotes, and deer.
