Gwar...

Another problem...

First off, thanks to everyone for the quick answer to my last question. Now I have another problem. I have an older Mossber 500A (early 80's) sitting in front of me. It has been sitting in my uncle's gunsafe for several years, and I convinced him to let me 'borrow' it. It looks good, save for a little bit of rust in the bore, and the one big problem I'm having with it. I slipped the safety off last night, dry fired it, and put the safety back on. When I was sliding the switch back, the little plastic thing broke in two! The two pieces still fit together perfectly, and I'm sure I can hold them together with some epoxy. My problem is getting it back onto the gun. The screw that holds the plastic down when it's all put together won't budge. Is this something that I need a smith to do, or am I missing something very obvious? If needed, I can take pictures to show what I'm talking about.

You just discovered one of the great weaknesses of the Mossberg shotgun....breaking plastic safety buttons.

You didn't break the safety, these just break on their own.

This is a very common problem with these guns, and the "fix" is to buy a new, metal safety from Brownell's.

Do a search for "Mossberg safety". Either the Over-sized Vang safety or the metal military safety will work.

You may want a gunsmith to do the actual replacement.

In any case epoxy or any other glue WILL NOT work.
The plastic is a type that won't glue.
