Speer starts at 5.6gr and maxes at 6.4gr with their 124gr bullets.
Sierra starts at 4.7gr and maxes at 5.7gr with their 125gr FMJ. Hornady starts at 4.3gr and maxes at 5.7gr with their 124gr bullets. Alliant's data is Speer's data. I've worked up loads with 124gr plated round noses to Speer's max. There was no velocity gain when going above 6.0gr. 6.0gr loads are snappier than I like and I've since backed off to 5.5gr for my loads. |

Thanks All,
Any input from Lymann reloading manual? (I've since backed off to 5.5gr for my loads.) MMB 713 how the recoil at 5.5? I'm looking for a load that will be close to Blazer 124gr FMJ. Chrono is on the way so I'll be check Blazer ammo and comparing my loads to that. Blazer group well from my G19 and G26. Thaks again. Last edited by shooters corner; December 3, 2013 at 06:08 PM. |

(The following load data is in compliance with Speer #14.)
My personal recipe for 9mm 124g Speer TMJ #3993 w/ Power Pistol is 6.0g. 1126 FPS through a Kahr CW9 - 3.7"bbl. I may take it to 6.2g's. Haven't decided yet. Speer #14 runs from 5.6g to 6.4g.

The recoil with the 5.5gr loads is not bad. A few rounds had some problems ejecting in my Witness P-S though. I may have been limp wristing but I doubt it. Next time I load those I'll up the charge at least a couple tenths.

I have experimented with a wide range of 124 gr Power Pistol loads, far above and below the published range.
If you are shooting a lot at targets, you want enough powder so the gun does not jam, but not so much powder that the slide slams into the frame. The cases should land 5' from the shooter. This will be well below the published max, unless you have very stiff recoil springs. For self defense, some slide slam is tolerable, but not so much that the shooter gets a flinch. Cases landing 20 feet away is not good for the gun either. The best recipe is one you have tuned up for your pistol.

not guessing
Suggest 5.4g start, most any OAL.

Lyman - Sierra 125 JHP, 1.075" OAL, Power Pistol start 5.1/max 5.7
Speer #14 and Lee run higher weights with longer OAL. My favored 124g/Power Pistol load is 124 grain Berry's HBRNTP with 5.0 or 5.2 grains of powder, 1.150" OAL. Runs around 1040/1080 fps out of a Springfield XDm 4.5.
