FTF in Ruger 580-series tactical mini-14
Hello:
I have never had a mini-14 fail-to-feed before - but it has happened three times with my new 580-series tactical mini-14. The mini-14 has always had a reputation as being dead reliable. What could be the problem? It was a Ruger factory magazine. The case shoulder of the round that failed to feed was crushed. Any ideas? |

jambrdly, I am a certified armorer for the mini 14. Did you get it cleared up? If not could you attach a photo? A little more info would help.
When somene at our range had problems it was usually 1 of 2 things. 1. Sometimes they did not have the magazine seated all of the way. 2. The magazine was defective. (Yes it can happen to a new one) I assume the magazine came new with your rifle. Do you have a spare magazine to try? Mark your mags and try both. If it happens again with the same mag you have your answer Is this happening often? Are you using good ammunition? The Mini is very reliable and robust and out of hundreds I have only sent 1 back to Ruger. It had a bent barrel from a car wreck. |
