The Box O' Truth - 2 .45 Single Shot BP Pistols

This picture laden article also has a lot of relevance to the lethal performance of black powder revolvers.
There's penetration but no round ball expansion when the .44 balls pass through water jugs.

Enjoy!

That was a good read, thanks for the link. Surprised that the derringer penetrated as well as it did with 40grs. I would have thought the ball would be out the barrel before it all burned.

Makes me wonder how my '63 pocket pistol will do with a .32 ball and 12gr. of black????

Thanks, arcticap! That was fun.

Hmmm, I have one of those same derringers. They were made by Jukar and sold under various names. I can never see what is happening due to the smoke, but then I have not loaded it over 20 grains, either. One of these days I will have to get close to some simple large target to see what is happening!

Until then, I have been having too much fun shooting it (except when it does not go off)!

The Doc is out now.

I have had both of those BP handguns for about 30 years, never fired one of them (shoot my BP rifles & Remmie a lot though). The little pistol that I have is .45 cal & the big one is .50 cal...... maybe that's why I haven't "gotten around to" shooting them Gonna hafta though, wonder what a hollow point minnie would do out of the .50 cal

I picked up one of those North American 22 B/p derringers; mine's a magnum and even so at 6' it's lucky to hit a 1' square and I was using 3" styrofoam squares that had some go through and be found on the ground and some sticking out the back of the styrofoam. It's fun to shoot, but worthless for any accuracy.
