Pocket holsters. Too many "rules." Super-size it.

I went with an Uncle Mikes size 4 for my Ruger LCP. Its not "designed" for an LCP sized weapon, however I wanted one holster that I could put in my front pocket, back pocket, cargo pocket, side pocket, AND in a back pack. My primary concern was/is concealabilty (even at the risk of losing a "perfect" quick draw), and protecting the weopon. Having said that, contrary to general consensus, this holster type does not have a huge effect on drawing efficiently (reholstering, maybe a little problem). I had a smooth enough draw with less than 30 minutes of practice.

This is the most it will ever print in "baggy" jeans.

If they are not in a pocket holster they sometimes tend to slide around and do not make for easy draws, plus something in the pocket can wiggle its way into a trigger guard and set the gun off. Hell I would even be nervous of catching a sharp enough edge on something outside the pocket and disengaging an uncovered trigger.

Safety issues aside, it prints. People see it plain as day if its in your pocket without a holster. Might as well open carry without a pocket holster.

Hoss some pockets may be bigger than others yes, but even in tight fitting jeans I find that from standing up/sitting/ getting in and out of cars ect can effect how a firearm rides in a pocket.

Another reasoning is sometimes with more dress type slacks the pockets are shallow, and when performing above said actions I feel nervous that the gun might slide out of the pocket. Most pocket holsters have grippy material on the outside which prevent this.

Also like stated above printing can be an issue depending on the state you live in or social situation you might be in.

( I don't know the details so it might not have been anything near pocket carrying... just pointing out mistakes are made.)

It's not my preferred method but when living outside of Philly for 5 years in the past it was just much easier running around with a Kahr PM-9 in my right front pocket than it would be concealing a 4'' 1911 or Sig p239 on the hip, cops in Philly are VERY anti-gun and Philly is the only place in PA where open carry is not permitted. So not only did I fear printing in front of potential threats, I feared printing in front of police officers as well.

There is no requirement for a holster in Ohio, with the exception of carrying when you are in a vehicle. If you have your handgun on your person, in a vehicle, it MUST be in a Holster.
Otherwise, you can put your handgun, in a case, a zippered bag, your glove box, or center console.

If you are out of your vehicle, there is no restrictions on how you carry, what you carry, and how many you carry.

If your happy with your holster great but it's not the way I'd go. The UM pocket holsters I've used loose shape and sometimes stay on the gun when you draw from the pocket. I've used SGS pocket holsters for two years now and there just about perfect for me.

A good pocket holster like a DeSantis Nemesis or Superfly will stay in the pocket as the gun is drawn.

I have carried pistols in a pocket without a holster. Depending upon the pocket and what's in it, this may be perfectly safe --- or not. For example, I have a leather jacket with an inside pocket with a vertical zipper. It is perfect for a mid-size semi-auto as it holds the gun vertically and allows for a quick and easy draw.

However, a pocket holster is normally preferable and I use one. I also use an Uncle Mike's for my LCP and Sig P238. I don't remember the size. Anyway, one of the things I learned is that the side needs to be reinforced to keep it from collapsing and hindering the draw. I took the spine off of a plastic report cover and glued it along the side and bottom. See photo below (for right hand carry). I learned the bottom piece was not necessary and it is no longer on the holster. It has worked very well for me:

I recently got a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380 and got a Remora "No-Clip" holster for it. It's probably the best holster purchase I've ever made - besides pocket carry (why I bought it in the first place), it makes a great IWB holster. I find that pocket carry while driving leaves a lot to be desired, but IWB is both comfortable and readily accessible. It's so comfortable IWB that I find myself using it that way as often as it's in the pocket.

I wouldn't think of pocket carrying without using a proper pocket holster, both for safety and concealment reasons. The DeSantis Nemesis works well with my Ruger LCP.

Since you asked, OK. You are incorrect. Pocket guns should be carried in holster to (1) beak up the outline, (2) prevent objects from working their way into the trigger guard, (3) protect the pistol from link and pocket trash, and finally, (4) to help position the pistol for a consistent draw.
