Beretta 92FS problem

I am babysitting a 92FS for someone who has to be out of the country for
a year or two and can't take it with them.
I have taken it to the range three times, with three different types of ammo,
and all three times it did the same thing.
The gun does not eject the empty cartridge case, it stuffs it right back in
the chamber. It does this sometimes four rounds out of five. It does not
jam, the next cartridge in the mag never sticks up and causes the slide to
stick open. It seems as if the slide isn't coming back far enough to eject the spent case,
and it is just going right back in the chamber.
All the parts, extracter, ejector, magazine, seem to be in working order.
I put a new Wolffe recoil spring (standard strength) in it, but that didn't help.

Any ideas?

OK lets see. It just does not seem like it could happen that the case is being extracted, but not ejected and then placed back in to the chamber.

It sounds like the case is not even being extracted from the chamber.

I am trying to get a better mental picture. When this happens, is the empty case firmly in the chamber after you fire?

it doesn't seem possible, and I have never seen it happen before in any
type of pistol. I have checked the extracter and it seems to be in working
order.
The reason I believe the shell is being extracted but not ejected, is that
the next round in the mag is never picked up by the slide and brought up
toward the chamber, thereby causing a stoppage against the empty
case in the chamber. But the recoiling slide does always manage to
re-cock the hammer.
I am inexperienced with Berettas, but I've been shooting 1911's for 30
years and I have never seen this happen.

How old is the Beretta? Maybe needs a new recoil spring, or you may be limp wristing. CLean it and lube, have someone else shoot the gun and see if the problem persists.

Oh yeah, is there an ejector visible?

I've seen this on Beretta's if they're limp-wristed. I know mine will do it if I don't have a firm grip.
