Karma exists,,,

So my small college town has two Wal Mart stores,,,
Yesterday I was close to the far away store by accident.

I decided to stop in and hope for some .22 LR,,,
Lo and behold there were three 100 round boxes of Winchester High Velocity.

No clerk.
So I go looking.

When we got back to the ammo counter there was an older gentleman standing there with his credit card out.

He saw me walk right towards the ammo and said,,,
Oh, I guess you saw the .22 also.

Then he said something about grandkids visiting this weekend,,,
Dang! said I.

I'm not hurting for ammo but I do buy it when I see it,,,
But this guy has grandkids so I said,,,
Go ahead, I'll get some next time.

He thanked me profusely and the clerk rang up his three boxes,,,
Which was the posted limit on .22 ammo purchases.

When the man walked away I was looking at targets or something,,,
The clerk said, "Do you still want to buy some .22?"

I said, "Yeah but it's all gone."

He reached to the back of the shelf,,,
And pulled out six more 200 round packs.

Then the clerk said, "That was nice what you did there,,,
You want to buy all of this?"

I said, "Yes please."

It was $6.92 per 100 pack,,,
I think that was the same price it was two years ago.

I was a happy camper when I left.

Aarond

Oh, I almost forgot,,,
Right next to the "Unobtainium Rimfire",,,
Was at least ten boxes of 50 Cal BMG ammo.

Can't buy plinking ammo but I could feed a Barrett very nicely.

I too also try and not be greedy and when I have found .22lr I never buy the maximum. If they allow 3 I buy 2 and leave some. Maybe I have created good karma because I do find .22 on a semi regular basis and the vast majority I have purchased in the past few years have been in the .05 range per round.
When it comes to the 50 cal BMG ammo you saw, was it cheaper per round than rimfire ammo is going for these days?

Good on you, man. Who knows, maybe that was little test, might pay off big in the end.

Good on you for being kind.

Would have been better if you had left some of the offered ammo. you may not be hurting for ammo, but the next guy might be.

Pardon me for being cynical but it's possible he uses the grandkids story where ever he buys .22s. Hmmm?

I gave a neighbor a brick of 22lr last spring so he could take his grandkids plinking. He had been to every store in 30 miles looking for some.

The price tag on the brick was under ten dollars. Doesn't matter if he ever replaces it, but he's looking. It's still unobtanium here, too.

Any I buy I sell to friends (for what I paid) who can't get out to look for it, (work). Lately I've just stopped buying to give others a chance.

Good on ya, Cooper!

I have no idea who Cooper is, but Aussies say it and it sounds cool.

That's a great story. The gun counter dude gets some serious cool points for hooking you up, that's for certain.

I've been using the Grandson storyline now, about a year. Two grandsons, one about 13 mos. old, the other about 9 mos. old.

Got to stockpile for when they start shooting!

Just joking about telling the "Grandkids" ammo story (but not the grandsons). I try to keep a running stockpile of .22 ammo in the 12 brick to 16 brick amount and have been for years. Have a nearby inside and outside place to shoot helps immensely.

That's right - you'll see a trickle of .22lr, and then WAM! - it'll be all over the place. Then you will see zillions of adds for the stuff on Gunbroker and no one bidding!!!

On another forum a member was looking for 9mm brass and many were willing to sell him some.
I have 2 five gallon buckets full so I offered to send him a gallon sized freezer bag full if he paid the shipping.
He agreed and the deal was done.
For the next few days I got hate mail.
Well Karma is real.
The following weekend a guy walked up to me at the gun range. Asked if I was the guy with all the LE 303’s that was out last month.
I said that was me.
He handed me a 1944 near perfect LE 303 leather rifle sling that I needed to complete one of my rifles.
I asked how much and he replied “Noting, you have a rifle that needs it more than me”
Karma - it is real!

Good going.

I've never bought everything on the shelf... I want a good stash. But I want others to have fun too..

My stash is nothing more than one can of each caliber I own.. I would like to have more.
I don't see how people can have drums of ammo stashed away...

I've had several disappointing trips to the store since 2008.

It's hard to break my old habits of buying only what I plan to shoot.

I don't want to wait a year to shoot my favorite caliber ever again, but I don't want to contribute to the shortage.

Terrible, but I'm not surprised. I bet we have no idea of the number of opportunists who have tried to make a killing in investing in ammo and ammo components. Or just how "invested" they are in this. When you can't find any .22LR ammo on the shelves, there's a hidden economic bubble there which is overripe for bursting.

Interesting statement. I started out just buying only the amount of ammo that I planned to shoot. "Stockpiling ammo" used to mean having a spare box of 50 rounds for my pistol and a couple of boxes of 20 rounds for my rifle. What is going on today is utter nonsense. Yes, I have a thousand rounds or so put away for my favorite calibers, but that's it; I'm done. For as little .22lr I shoot, my 500 round box, plus misc smaller boxes aught to last me at least another 5 years.

He did have a little bit more on the shelves,,,

He did have a little bit more on the shelves,,,
As I was leaving he puled the rest (5-6 boxes) to the front.

It's just that all we could see,,,
Were those first 3 boxes.

I was cruising through Utah a few years ago in my Corvette Z06. A Mustang came up next to me and revved his engine to about 9000 RPM, and zoomed off. I TOTALLY ignored him!

About two miles up the road.......THIS HAPPENED! Karma? YES!

Good karma on your part. I generally split at cost 22 with our rangemaster who has trouble finding it.

Interesting, because I do something similar. I have a .22lr handgun I take to he range with me no matter what, as well as a box of .22lr

Along side that is a second set of foamies and ear protection for any new shooters that happen to swing by.

One of these days, I'll pick up something a bit more kid friendly, other than a handgun.

Skywag,
That was not karma, that was stupidity coupled with not paying attention.
He must have had important text to deal with while speeding.

at the range yesterday, only two of us, he had pit B, so i took pit C. we both shoot for a bit and i take a break and wander over to see how he's doing. he's doing very well with his revolver. he sees what i'm carrying, eyes get big. that a VP9? yeah, pull it out, lock slide back offer it to him. i ask, 'want to shoot it?'

happy dance ensues.

shoots 3 rounds, holes touching.

it's on his list to add to his collection.

Because all the outdoor ranges have a ban on "rapid fire", I don't bother to shoot .22 any more. Their definition of rapid fire can be anywhere from 1 second shots to 4 second shots. I bought a .22 and keep an ammo stash to teach when I get the chance, but firing a shot every several seconds with a .22 is pretty boring to me since they're so easily controlled.
