Reloaders
I guess I picked a bad time to start reloading, what with the primer shortage. Can Remington No. 5 1/2 Small pistol Primers be used as one would use Winchester and CCI Small pistol primers.

The Remington 5 1/2 is a Small Pistol MAGNUM primer. You may substitute it for CCI, Federal, or Winchester Small Pistol MAGNUM primers. As long as you follow the data available you're OK. Don't substitute MAGNUM primers for standard primers if your loading data calls for standard primers. The closer you get to maximum loads, the more important this becomes because of increased pressures.

If you use "starting data" (usually -10% from max) and work up slowly from there, you can substitute SPM or SR primers for SP's. Don't substitute a hotter primer if you are already at or near a maximum load.

What caliber are you shooting? I suspect a 380acp, in which case the Max load would be somewhere around 3.4gr of w231. |
