Winchesters Ultra Light 12 ga Load??

Winchester has a 2 1/2 Dr. Eq. 7/8 oz. 12 ga target load. Now, wouldn't this make excellent very low recoil load for a Remington 1100? I have been looking at 20 ga. guns for the same purpose, but this load seems to have all the right stuff. The only challenge would be to get the 1100 to cycle smoothly.

Any problem with going with a light 12 gauge vs. a similar 20 ga. load?

If you are referring to the Winchester Low Recoil, Low Noise round its specifically states on the box that it may not work in semi-auto shotguns. The ones I tried would not work in a Beretta over/under because the recoil was so low that it would not reset the recoil operated trigger to fire the second barrel.

I found the pattern of these shells to be very dense out to about 25 yards and then it quickly opened up creating holes in the pattern. I suspect this is because the 1050 fps velocity is quite low. My 7/8's load goes out at around
1200 fps and works in the semi and everything else.

I was thinking that it might work if the gas port was opened a bit, but the pattern problem may not have a fix.

The inexpensive Walmart 1100's have me interested in buying one for my wife.

Anyone ever get these guys to work in a gas gun?

Some trapshooters I know have used 1 oz, low velocity loads in 1100s, but a 7/8 oz reliably cycling in an auto is asking a lot, it seems.

Of course, if you're looking for a light recoil, beginner training load, you can handcycle them through almost any shotgun.

You can duplicate 20 gauge ballistics with a 12 gauge shell, but most 20 gauge shooters think that 12 gauge guns handle like clubs. I like the way the little guns swing

"At 06/01/2001 02:34 PM we wrote - Sir/Madam, the model 1100 will cycle the light 2-3/4" shells. Providing that it is NOT a model 1100 magnum."

I guess someone just has to try it.
