Need 40 S&W loads using Red Dot & Unique
Anyone with recipe's for 180 grain LFP in 40 with Red Dot & Unique please let me in on your tried & proven mix, I know they are old powders but I Like, Have and love the smell of excess smoke on the range.
Thanks, |

From the Speer book, I use Hornady 180 grain atop 6.0 grains of Unique, and an average max completed cartridge length of 1.129-1.131 (1.135 is your max according to Speer). Had no problems through my 5" Springfield XD as far as failures to cycle or anything of the sort. Average fps is around 860 with this load.
Haven't found a need to increase the powder charge-as I am at the bottom end of the spectrum, but I have considered going lower to see what the limit is. |

-------------*Listed Loads are for reference Only*---------------------------
I shoot 4gr of Red-Dot with 180gr LSWC and really like it. I also shoot 3.8gr of unique with the same bullet for my IDPA load. Both loads are a nice soft shooting load with plenty of power to knock Steel plates. I shoot a G23 with a Lone Wolf match Barrel. Enjoy Crazy4nitro -------------*Listed Loads are for reference Only*---------------------------

I use 3.7 gr. of Unique with a 180 gr RNFP lead bullet or 175 gr. SWC with an OAL of 1.125-1.130 (close to minimum OAL for that load).
The Lee manual lists 3.5 as a starting load and 3.9 (I believe) as never exceeds. You'll be safe starting with 3.5 and working up to find the best combo for your weapon. I'm shooting a 4" S&W Sigma, accurate and not quite as heavy as factory ammo on the wrists. |

Here's a few:
http://www.handloads.org/loaddata/de...Powder&Source= Generally speaking, the webmaster at this website verifies any and all postings of data. If the load is out of line, he pulls it. It is still good loading practices to verify that the loads listed are indeed safe. |
