An 870 story....

I just got back from PGC, shot a coupla rounds and was discussing shotguns while a group shot a round. One young man was shooting a classic 870, nice wood, fixed Full choke, blue so deep it looked like you could stick your finger into it up past the cuticle.

He shot well, and as he left the line I asked him how long he had had the 870.

He smiled and said, not long. He let me examine and heft it, and I was admiring it when he added that it had been a gift on his first wedding anniversary from his Father In Law. This tickled me,and I complimented him on his taste in in-laws. He said,"There's more to it", and called his FIL over to us.

The FIL had been given the 870 by HIS FIL, back in the late 60s, on the occasion of HIS first wedding anniversary. It had taken upland game and waterfowl, shot a serious number of squirrels, and was in like new condition.3 Generations, going strong.

Now there's a tradition more folks should adopt!!

Man, that's a great "Welcome to the family." I would try to keep the wife happy if I were him.

I've told the daughter what my requirements are for a future son-in-law and if she comes thru boy could I spoil him!
I've got a married stepson but his only interests are sports on TV and really bad music.
Got my fingers crossed on the right son-in-law...

I wish I would have gotten a hold of My Grandfathers 12Gauge. My cousin had it and got arrested when he was Teen and the police took it I asked them a few years ago what happened to Granpa's shotgun and they told me

Glad you liked it,folks. Sure tickled me.

Our kids know they're inheriting at least one 870 each, among other items that make loud noises...
