Unloading/Loading Shells - Wear and Tear
Does loading and unloading the same shells create any problems.
Re: loading and unloading the same defensiveroundsfor a home shotgun. Will any wear result on the shells themselves that can create issues. What signs of shell damage should I look for? |

Yes it does, tho it takes a while. Rims get bent, sometimes a round starts to telescope from the spring pressure, and on occasion the crimp get messed up and both buffer(if any) and shot get loose in the weapon. A few 8s can booger up most pumps PDQ, and require disassembly to fix.
Simple fix. Since we all practice frequently with our defense weapons, use the old ammo at the next session, replace with new. Also, once as an experiment for my old agency, I used all the bent, beat up, leaky old dubious rounds in a fast COF just to see if they worked. They did. HTH.... |

You're welcome. Course Of Fire- whatever drill or exercise used for training.
An example, my old agency qualifier.... With 4 rounds in the magazine, empty chamber, action locked shot, safety on, rack, mount and engage a tombstone target at 15 yards. After the 4th shot, "Combat" load a 5th round by insertion through the ejection port, fire and make safe. Repeat at 25 yards. HTH.... |
