Permenantly attaching qd mount for shortest possible barrel length.

Curious about something here guys. The qd mount for my can is a little over 3" long, minus however much the threads overlap the barrel.

How does one have the barrel shortened less than 16" & have the qd mount reattached to make a 16" barrel again?

Simply buy a barrel & send it to a smith I'm assuming? I'm hoping to hear from someone that's done it. I'm already waiting on the can, don't want to wait on sbr papers too.

Thanks.
