870 HD rifled slugs?

I just recently got a 870 home defense 12 ga and was wanting to know if I can shoot rifled slugs out of it? The guy at my LGS made a comment to the effect that you can, it just has to be particular ones. I always thought you can shoot rifled slugs out of a smoothbore cylinder choked gun with no issues.

Sorry, I know it's a dumb question but I've never shot slugs before.

Thanks, Hellbent

Rifled slugs are for smooth barrels while SABOT slugs are for RIFLED barrels...
Rifled is the area of lead that can be compressed easily as it passes thru the constriction of the choked muzzle.

You can and choke does not matter as far as shooting them. Choke could matter for longer ranges, you will just have to pattern your gun.

Yep, you got it, assuming there are no safety issues that would prevent it from shooting any other modern loads.

Plus one for hogdogs
