Tisas 1911 thoughts?

Not really in the market, but Turkish guns are getting a lot of good press lately, which brings me to the Tisas. Thoughts?

For a bare bones 1911, they are solid pistols. For the price, they are great pistols.

I have a Tisas Trabzon .40 Sig knock-off which runs 100% and has a very nice trigger action... It's not going to win a judged beauty contest but I consider it a very good value ATC.

FWIW, I have a (Phillipines) MetroArms 1911 Commander that I'm very happy with... Slightly more expensive but better-finished than Tisas.

Yes. Umarex USA imports the Tisas 1911 under the Regent name.

Look at the photos in the review I linked to. In one of the detail shots of the right side, showing the serial number, you can clearly read "TISAS."

The few I've handled seemed decent but the fillipinos have cornered the market when it comes to solid 1911's in the budget category. Armscor, Metro and ATI have the turks beat easily, IMO.

Not ATI -- they're an importer. Their 1911s are made in the Philippines by Shooters Arms Manufacturing (S.A.M.). They are good guns, and well-priced.

However, the prices of all three Philippine makers have crept up. They can't sell you a gun for the price of the Tisas today.

Are all these off-shore pistols using interchangeable parts?

If I need a recoil spring for example, can I use a generic 1911 recoil spring, from say Wolff, or do I need to source from the manufacturer?

They are as close to the JMB spec as any other production gun today. They are OK guns. IMHO they are crudely finished and I would carefully inspect "the one" I was buying if I was choosing this level of 1911. For a budget shooter they will work but for a little bit more money there are better choices.

OK, bottom line:

I have my father's WWII .45 1911 mfg by Ithaca Arms. Due to age, and possibly spotty wartime production, I don't shoot it much..in fact it has been a coupla decades since it has seen any action. Otta clean that guy sometime...

Anyway, i would be falling into the GI replica camp of 1911s.

What would be good things to look at?

New or used? What will you be using the gun for? Range toy? Defensive handgun?

New, used, purpose...

Had not gotten that far. I generally go the used route -who can afford new?? But that isn't locking out new if a new item is a better option for some reason.

I am NOT interested in a $5,000 Wilson CQC uber-pistol. This is not being used for competition, but to have a working, functional range/home/woods 1911.

It is not considered for EDC, I have others for that role.

Look no further than the RIA GI.

I'd recommend the RIA tactical model. The enhances you get over the base GI and well worth the small difference in price.

OP is looking for a 1911 or 19111A GI replica. So a RIA tactical does not fit the need.

Moving from cheapest to more expensive I would look at the

Tias
RIA GI
Taylors
SA Milspec
Norinco (Used)
Sistema Colt (Used)

I choose a Sistema

TISAS Zigana pistols are not SIG knock-offs.

They are Walther P 88 Compact clones with pretty heavy face lift.
