percussion cap muzzleloader
I recently inherited a muzzle loader with a rifled barrel, percussion cap ignition, stamped NH & CH Raymond, Cambridge City Ind on right side of barrel. Right side plate and hammer also engraved with floral patterns & pheasants. Anyone who could point me in the right direction in finding out about this firearm would be greatly appreciated. It also has two triggers in line.

Try the black powder forum on here, you'll be targeting more of a specialty group & that may help you get info.
The 2 triggers are probably what is called a "double-set trigger" the front one is the "real" trigger, & the rear one is used to "set" it (give an extremely light pull)

Pictures are a must for identifying any gun.

I suspect the Raymonds were lock makers rather than gun makers, but I don't see them in my sources.
A search turns up a reference to a full tiger maple stock percussion Indiana long rifle, with the barrel marked John Wandle, Wells Co., Indiana, and N.H. and C.H. Raymond, Cambridge City, Indiana on the lockplate. Jim |
