243 to 6mm rem
Can a 243 be rechambered to 6mm rem? Can it be rebbled to it? Will the bolt face and mag work? Is it true that the 6mm rem has a much longer bbl life despite better performance?
Thanks

No, you can't rechamber without having a bulge in the fired cases. The shoulder of the .243 is larger than the 6mm Remington is at the same point, so you would have, in effect, two chamber shoulders.
You could have the barrel set back and rechambered or the rifle rebarrelled, but, while I like the 6mm a lot, there is not enough difference (IMHO) to justify the cost of the work. Given the same powder charge, same bullets, etc., there is not going to be any difference in barrel life. The main advantage of the 6mm is that the case can take a couple of grains more powder and can be loaded hotter, but that will certainly not be an advantage if you are looking for longer barrel life. It's the same bullet, with almost the same powder and load spec's and very close performance capabilities--it's very close to being the same rifle. At the cost of trying to rechamber a .243 you aren't really going to get a noticable difference. If you do want to go to 6mm Rem, just buy a 6mm Rem and spend the rest you would have spent rebarreling/rechambering and buy brass.

While the .244/6mm Remington has advantages, its main reason for being was simply that Remington hated to put ".243 WINCHESTER" on its rifles.
