Once a breech plug locks up it's usually in there SOLID. I hope you can get it turned loose so's you can get that old feller shootin again!

Sounds to me like you have gotten good advice. It is fixable.
I have removed the breach plugs on muzzle loaders ( the
LAST recourse ) and have been amazed at the old crud
that can stay inside a cleaned gun

I Guess I'll Have To Do That One Day And Check It Out.i May Take It To Our Armor At The Police Dept And See If He Can Help.he Would Have The Tools More So Than Me.the Pd Has There Own Full Time Armor And He Works On Our Guns As Well.he Is A Great Guy And Does Small Jobs For Us On The Side For Free.

I thought I'd share this with you guys . I use to belong to a similar club and got this from one of the members . I was using an 1851 in .44 cal. : lay a single large sheet of paper ( 4'x8' ) on the ground in front of your shooting position and holding your loaded gun normally above the near side of the sheet , let loose . What happens is that ANY excess powder in you gun is thrown out the barrel and fall on that sheet and you carefully collect that powder and weight it. Susbtracting that amount of unburned powder from your load will be your OPTIMUM LOAD. In my 1851 , my load was 23 gr of 3fffg Goex behind a 140 gr ball with corn meal on top of the powder and Crisco on top of the ball. I then cut the spout of my powder flask to get that amount every load. The gun shot at the POA at 25 yards free hand . I enjoy reading your posts, but I'm not in the loop anymore. Mykeal, I jus' finnished readin' the beginin' of all this with George and all.
I emailed him earlier this Year with a current Political thing goin' round...boy did I hear it from him.
When I told um who it was that sent it(personal name) he was ok...and doin' fine with his kids and grand kids. Still shootin the HolyBlack now and again.
Those were some days Mykeal...
And even have a 3rd Generation Colt...HeeHee!(was another thread I read)

The only thing I can see wrong with overloading a Remington is that the ball could lead up the rifleing faster, and foul the bore quicker. I use lubed conicals in mine and don't have room for the extra powder.
