Yeah... I'm sick but I don't dare call in or they will █████can me so fast it'll make my headspin, I'm still on the new hire probationary period where I can be terminated for no reason at the whim of my boss. This is day 4 of my 8 day in a row schedule this week, They told me they "needed" me to work on my 2 days off... and when they phrase it like that I dont think you have the option of saying "No." Plus Im the new guy and everyone knows "█████ rolls down hill" my route start times have ranged from 5:30-9am (different everyday) Its hard to get a decent sleeping pattern, since after a 10-12 hour day I am young and Kinda wanna have a social life too. The kick in the nuts is... I could go work security at a hospital and get paid 3$ an hour more with overtime after 40 hours... Mind you I'd be on graveyard shift and in a not so nice part of the city without the option of carrying a gun...:barf: I kinda wondered why most people I work with have been there for a year or less, and now I know.

Oh... And yeah I know all about the security concerns falling on deaf ears... I had a guy who's been with the company for a long time tell me the company figures it's cheaper to pay a $100,000 death benefit ($200,000 if wearing a company approved ballistic vest when you fall) than to deal with a multi-million dollar lawsuit resulting from a shooting incident, and I believe it from the stuff I hear and see around the branch

Perhaps a lawsuit from a fallen guard's NIK might convince them otherwise?

My lovely boss had me work the first 17 weekends of employment and gave me a ration of crap when I asked for a Sunday off so the wife and I could do something together. He also would not give me 2 days off in a row during the week. It would be a day here and there. What else would you expect from a guy that bragged about eating possum and squirrel as a regular diet. Guess there were no grocery stores near by

I have applied elsewhere. I'll continue working until something better presents itself... but I made it clear from the beginning this job was until something better came along... the TSA has part-time officer positions (16-24 Hours/wk) that pay more per hour than Im making as an armored car officer. Needless to say I applied IDk if I'll go, but the airport is less than a mile from my Armored Branch . I'll wand people down and look at x-ray screens. And not be cramped in a truck, and who knows maybe it will open other Homeland Security/Federal Jobs

I did armored car car work for Dunbar and we interacted with the guards from other car companies too and weapons were NEVER drawn. We all had autos, we did not goof off or screw around on the job it was in and out. The window are level 3+ and the bodies would stop typical rifle ball ammo.
Same for all the other companies trucks. When we went in the Fed reserve, we had an armed escort into and out of the facility. |

Did 11.5 years in management within the industry. Been out since 2005 and I do not miss it. Started on the trucks and worked my way up to Branch Manager.
I developed a company wide standard training program and it has been stopped due to the economy and cost of the one week training course. Hated to hear that recently. I wish the best to all of you guys who are still out there on the routes everyday. Keep your head on a swivel. If something feels wrong, it is. Be Safe
