Mauser? Can anybody help?
A friend gave me this, obviously the action has been harvested, looks like a 98 Mauser to me, bore looks like 8mm, haven't measured but it's a big hole The only marking on it are pictured, I haven't removed the forend wood but no markings visible on the metal.
Anybody recognize this one? Thanks in advance. IMGP0938_edited.JPG IMGP0936_edited.JPG IMGP0941_edited.JPG

It looks like it was a Czech VZ-24, possibly one made for Iran on contract in the 1920's. A lot that were imported from various places had barrels that were pretty well shot and rusted out, but the action is one of the best and smoothest Mauser 98 actions ever made. The result was that a lot of folks used the actions to build sporters, and discarded the rest. You have "the rest."
(FYI, in case you wondered, the sling swivels were made for use by both infantry, who would put the sling on the bottom swivels, and the cavalry, who would put it on the side swivels so it could be carried slung across the back while riding a horse.) Jim |

Thanks Jim, I kinda wondered about the sling mounts, that makes sense. Anybody need a stock and barrel?
