Good Lord, whatever you do, don't build your own AK-47. You'll get addicted quick.

Cameron, that pic really doesn't help!

To the OP, its too late. Once the addiction starts, say goodbye to your savings.

Of all the terrible addictions that exist in the world, building guns can't be all that bad can it?

I am leaning toward a 20(+) inch 6.8 SPC A4 set up for my next build.

Thinking about a build. What would it cost me other then time, sanity, and a back ground check? (as in money lol)

Cameron's closet

Cameron, WOW, I thought I carried one like that in the Nam, but no, really nothing quite like those. Thanks for sharing.

Whitetail - around $600-800. Depends on the parts that you want and whether you already have some common tools.

It has begun... picked up a blemished stripped lower for less than $100. I couldn't not bring the little guy home. He was so scared and lonely.

ROFLMAO!!!
I just finished another and have a thread running on what to build next.
I have built a number of 5.56 rifles and now time for something else.
Maybe a .458 or a 300AAC or something?????????
Enjoy the bug has bitten.

I've never built one "from scratch" yet. Going to do two projects in the near term, a 300 AAC and a .308. Will start with 80% lowers for both and mill them myself.

Best,

On this one I am leaning toward a "classic" GI-issue M4 look (except it will have a mid length quadrail).

The only thing I debating is whether I will put ultra-classic black - or super tactical foliage green furniture on it..;. I just have to figure out which one will make me shoot straighter...

One of my buddies was turned to the dark side when he saw my builds. He's wanting me to help him build one in .308 with wood furniture. I am SO excited. I think my next one will be .300 BLK.

Damn.

Now I am torn between: a mid-length M4 "style" carbine and a full size rifle.

And then, if I get the 20" I am debating on a collapsible stock or Magpul's fixed stock (just because IMHO it looks badass).

Once you build one, you're screwed. You just might as well give in and not fight it because the addiction will consume you. Just one more, then I'll stop. Yeah, sure.

If you're still wanting it in 6.8 SPC as you mentioned earlier, I'd go for the 20". Of course, this all depends on what you want to use it for and whatnot, or if you just want to build another one just to build one cause its fun/cool (nothing wrong with that). I don't know what your first AR build was, but when I built my 2nd AR I did the polar opposite of what I did for my first i.e. super light weight carbine vs heavy long range rifle.

[Edit: This one will def be a budget build!]

I would like to build a 6.8 but I dont know if the cost is worth it.I also don't hunt. And I dont get to the range often enough to get good at long distance shooting. But mostly, I don't know how old the 6.8 round is or if it will be around forever. I dont want to be stuck with parts from an obscure caliber a couple of years down the road. I don't see 5.56 going anywhere. It would be nice to have though!

.....aaaaannnd now I am building a budget 16" keymod.

It is 100% frankengun. Anderson receivers and barrel. Magpul mags, grip, and stock, MBUS x2. BCM KAG angled grip and QD mount. Primary Arms micro dot. YHM flash hider. Troy QD swivels. CMMG lower parts kit. UTG keymod.

Despite the price on the Anderson and UTG stuff, I am REALLY impressed with the quality and I have no doubts about any of the parts.

Because its a frankengun I have managed to the build to less than $800 so far. All I have left to buy is the BCG which I will invest some serious bucks into. Enjoy the gun p*rn!

It could be worse

I use to build Off-Shore fishing boats, most with twin outboards...They are considerably more expensive, harder to hide from the wife, and made her a lot more upset.
