Trouble finding Mossberg 535 Tactical replacement barrel

I bought my 535ATS with the 28" barrel to hunt, but I want to get another barrel as short as possible for home defense, and of course with the 3.5" chamber it shares no interchangeability with the 500, but I noticed that there is now a 535 Tactical with a 20" barrel, Perfect! Problem is, mossberg site doesn't sell that barrel, only hunting barrels and scope combos from Cabela's etc.

Does anyone know where I can find that barrel, and in black? I found 22" barrels but they are always in breakup mossy oak which I don't care for. Mossberg sales rep said they don't even have a part number for it.

With new models or variants, the new parts production may be earmarked for new guns and the warranty shop. You may have to wait a while before Mossberg makes the barrel available as a spare part. With a new gotta-have variant, why would they sell the barrel if they can sell you the whole gun?

I haven't been able to find anything like that either. If you do you might find it pretty expensive to boot say $150-200?

Have you considered just buying a used 500 for about the same price?

Yeah, but I like the option of being able to use 3 1/2 shells and I already have the shotgun. I went to http://www.riflestock.com and looked at some of their 10 round tubes. I called them and they said if you just opened up that piece on the barrel that holds the tube, or just removed it, you could use a longer tube from another model. THEY said all mossberg pump tubes are the same. Mossberg didn't say that though, but the guy I talked to at Mossberg sounded like a jerk. Then just fashion up something to hold the tube to barrel. That should be easy.

To be clear, I didn't just want a shorter barrel, I wanted to increase shell capacity.

The 18in 500 barrel will fit---just shoot no bigger than 3in shells when using it.

If you want the 20in--you'll have to replace the mag tube with somthing like this:

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=2...TY-SHOTGUN-KIT

AGAIN--USE NO LARGER THAN 3IN SHELLS WHEN USING THIS

But then your hunting barrel won't fit on this mag tube.

Like I said, call Mossberg. Per an old TFL post you might want Mossberg part #90823.

Quote:
I was looking for an 18.5" 590 barrel to go on my 835 when I got lucky and found an actual 18.5" 835 barrel with a 3-1/2" chamber on GunBroker for about $80.00. The Mossberg part number for the 18.5" 835 barrel is #90823 and you might be able to order it directly from them.
You may also want to look at http://www.mossbergowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1170

Just got off the line with the Mossberg sales team and found that they can in fact sell 535 ATS barrels that are not listed in their sales catalog. They just have to get the part number for the barrel one wants from the parts list of the 535 ATS model you want. For instance, if one has the 535 ATS with the 28" game hunting barrel and you want the 20" barrel from the 535 ATS Tactical Turkey model (what I wanted), the Mossberg sales team found the part number for the 20" barrel is #17821MTFO and the price is a reasonable $160 plus shipping. They were very helpful and considerate.

Greetings Philman, and welcome aboard.

You make a good point, there's a difference between "extra" barrels and "replacement" barrels. A lot of things are available if you have the correct part number.
