Looking for a riflesmith...
Who can drill and tap my 1899 Oberndorf M96 Swede for an Elit or Soderin diopter receiver sight. Since the old girl is horribly mismatched, but shoots well, it's time for me to finish her transformation into one of these:

Gewehr98,
I've done a couple for myself, it isn;t that hard if you have the right tools and jigs. Any good smith can do what your asking. Depending on the hardness of the receiver metal, the area to be drilled and tapped may need to be spot annealed and then rehardened. Like I said, any gunsmith with some snap can handle this.

Gewehr98, as Joe said your local smith should be able to handle this for you. If you don't have anyone near you feel free to e-mail me. George

None of the Mausers are hard enough to have to worry about annealing, and that job is pretty simple.

Gewehr98, if you find someone local, let me know! I always go out-of-town for smithing.
Thanks Dave |
