Semi-auto .223/5.56 possibilities
Is the Mini-14 about the only semi-auto in .223/5.56 that is not an AR-15?

Slim pickings. I would normally recommend a browning BAR but I don't think they make it in 223.
Other than that you get into big bucks. |

Another thought, depending on what you plan to do with it, an M1 carbine.

Century Arms C93.
Roller delayed blowback design based on the G3 and G53 German weapons. Magnificent design. Doesn't cost too much either.

IWI Tavor, and I think the Galil ACE will be available in 5.56 as well. Steyr AUG, Beretta ARX 100, FN SCAR 16, FS2000, and I'm sure there's lots more I can't think of right now.

Thanks guys.
The Atlantic Firearms links got me looking at the Vepr AK74 in 5.45x39. Anyone experienced with those? |

Steyr Aug, A1-A3.
I have an A1. I take it out once in a blue moon. There are many possibilities beyond the AR.

5.45x39 is a col round. check ammo availability before you pique too much interest though. it used to be very cheap and plentiful, not sure anymore

The only one that I didn't see mentioned that I can think of is the VZ58 which can be had in that chambering. Oh, and the soon to be released FN M249

You might get lucky and run across a used Daewoo DR200 (possibly other models). It's a civilian version of the ROK Army rifle and does not appear to be imported currently.

Thanks Chris in Va. I'm taking a look at that now.
For as much as I will use it, I don't have a problem with the Mini-14, but they're in the $600 plus range on GB and then there is shipping and transfer fee. The Keltec's appear to be in the $500 range new. |

The problem is its a Kel-Tec... I know I will get flamed for being an elitist... but we stopped carrying anything with their brand name due to their return rates.
If it's gonna be a range toy, sure get the Kel-tec, if its meant to be a defensive tool, I think money is better spent elsewhere. |
