Display Box

I found this box with a glass top at Michaels for 10 bucks. It's just big enough for a colt navy or army.

It comes as plain basswood, and it's just an empty box inside. There's no latch for the lid, but it is hinged at the back. You just lift it up by the front edge.

You need to stain it, put in a piece of foam rubber (or similar) and cover with some kind of material. I used a piece of ivory satin that I bought at Walmart.

So for 20 bucks you have a decent little box. Traditions makes one that you can get online for about 50 dollars, but the only liner color they offer is red, which I did not want.

Can you post the sku number? I tried searching thier online site and didn't come up with it.
I'd certainly like to get some, but need to check my local store's availability if possible.

IIRC, A.C.Moore also has boxes - I bought a couple that look like closed hardcover library books, which I cover variously in leather or fabric, similar to the original Colt presentation boxes that were inscribed: "Compliments of Col. Colt".

OK, the sticker on the bottom of the box (which I did not stain) has a bunch of numbers on it.

In the upper left hand corner above the bar code lines is a small 454435.

Underneath the bar code lines is a larger 00100 68880, and to the left and right of the bar code there is a small 4 and 9.

Ten bucks for a glass box and ten bucks for satin. You did great and it looks like a museum display.

Agree

The box makes a very nice home for that revolver.

Way to go!

Articap,

I like those boxes a lot, just the right selection of sizes and you have a choice of colors.

If I had seen those before, I would not have bothered with making one.

I have bought a couple of boxes from Hampels. He does a real nice job.

I stole your idea Chaz. Only I went to Hobby Lobby and found this shadow box already finished with a magnetic catch on the door. Every other week they are 50% off and this one was $19.95. The satin was $1.49. The foam I bought was 1 inch thick but I couldn't close the lid with the gun in the box so I took it out and just wrapped the back of the box. It already had about a 1/16th of an inch of foam on it. Next time I will try a smaller box (this one is 16X12) and maybe a different fabric background. I plan on adding a third gun to this one since I have the room.
