This question may not exactly fit here but here goes.

How can I obtain the names/address of some gunsmiths in South and North Carolina.

I do have one near me who I have used in the past, and was satisfied, but I would like to know of some others.

Any help appreciated.

There's a gunsmithing school at Troy, NC. It's at Montgomery Community College. Phone number is 910-876-6222. Ask for Wayne Bernauer. Maybe he can give you a few references.

Try Pat Linthicum. His address is Woods' N Wetland, 334 N Main St Randelman NC 27317. Phone # (336) 495-4868. Also PMS Firearms in Salisbury NC has a gunsmith. Their address is 1106 Mooresville Rd Salisbury NC 28147. I've had both of these guys do work for me and can reccommend them. Hope this helps, Byerly

Perhaps it would help if we knew for what kind of 'smith you are looking: general repair, handguns, rifles, shotguns, engraving, refinishing, wood work, etc. There are a lot of 'smiths around, but they tend to specialize in specific areas (whether they advertise it or not).

Thanks for the input guys.

Am primarily looking for someone who works on 45's and pistols in general.

Does anyone know of one in the upstate of SC who does this type of work?

I don't mind driving to NC to get some work done but would prefer to stay closer to home if possible.

Thanks for your input

I worked part-time at PMS Guns for awhile and had a 1911 customized by our gunsmith. I recommend his work highly. If you call them ask for Dave Fisher.....

Tarheel,

Can you give the address for PMS.

Might make contact with them in the next few weeks.

Tommy Abernathy, Precision Gun Works, Mt. Holly, NC. It's not far from SC. Tommy specializes in the 1911, although I've also seen some of his work on Glocks and Witnesses. He does all his own work except for refinishing, which he farms out to Checkmate. He's a one-man shop and doesn't advertise, but he has been written up in one or two of the gun rags. He has a team that shoots GSSF matches in NC, SC, FL, so you might see him there sometime. His phone number is (704) 827-2359. I'm a satisfied customer.
