Polishing Shotgun Chamber

I have an 870 Express and a Mossberg 930 SPX. I would like to polish the chambers. I saw a link on here recently on how to do it, but the pics were blocked. Anyone know of a detailed instruction to do it?

The best way is to completely fieldstrip your gun so its just a stock, mag tube and empty receiver. If you don't want to do that, open the chamber and use your index finger to scrub around in there, dry it and spray a coat of lube when done and work the action a few times.

Take a cleaning rod or a dowel. Wrap it with 0000 wool. Make sure it is tight in the chamber. Chuck the rod into a drill and have at it. Run it in and out for a couple of minutes. Don't put any oil on the 0000. Let it smooth out the rough places. Oil will defeat the purpose. If your drill is reversible, reverse it and have at it some more. The 0000 won't hurt the steel but will polish out the rough machine marks. When you are satisfied with the smoothness, oil it lightly.

Make sure that the 0000 revolves in the chamber by using a tip or a split tip dowel. Some folks run the 0000 all the way to the choke. It is too soft to harm smooth steel but hard enough to polish out rough places.

A little flitz on a barrel swab for one size larger gauge...
Wal mart put all the swabs on clearance sale at 99 cents so I bought a gob of them even if I didn't own that size.

Where do you buy the 0000 wool? And how does the wools stay on the dowel if it'sjust wrapped around it?

0000 is available at wally world or any hardware store in the paint section. I use a brass brush and cling it into the brush and go at it using a battery drill

hanks. I gotta get a rod, then. My cleaning rod has the handle at the end of it, so i can't fit it into a drill. I've heard polishing the chamber is a good thing to do, especially in an Express. I can't shoot anything other than slugs at my range, and I don't use them for HD. The gun will cycle when I pump lout the shells though.

For the chamber just use a 3 piece rod and use just the one end rod. If it is going to be reversed, I would dedicate it by using RED loctite on the threads and let it set up overnight.
