I could find no Alliant published data for the 240swc but found their tech support number: 1-800-276-9337.
If this helps, I'm running a 240gas checked swc at 922 ft/sec out of a 4.5" barrel using 7.5 grains of Green Dot (much faster burn than 2400). Same load runs at 1105ft/sec out of a 20" Marlin. Marlin's max load for the gas check bullet s 20.5 grains 2400 @ 1510 ft/sec out of a 6" barrel. |

Thanks alot I looked at the Alliant site for what I want and all they have is other powders that I dont think are magnum powers for the full potential
of the .44 mag. |

Use the data for the 250 grain Keith-type bullet. According to Alliant data a max load is 20 grains of 2400 for a speed of 1390 fps.
I use 2400 in my .44 magnum and 19.0 grains of 2400 gives me 1345 fps with a 240 grain hard-cast bullet. A general rule of thumb in reloading is that when you can't find a load for the precise bullet you're using, it's safe to use data for a heavier bullet of the same type. |

Yep, yer answer is right there on page 354 of Lyman's 48th Edition Reloading Handbook! No listing for W231, too fast. Get yerself a reloading manual; an essential tool for any reloader.
BTW; 18.5 gr. to 20.6 gr. 2400 for a 240-245 gr. SWC.

I load W296 in my 44 mag. 21gr for my 240gr. and 20gr for my 255gr Kieth. Both are ignited by CCI LPM.

I've prolly used that same load hundreds of times in my .44 Magnums. I guess .44 Magnum is my favorite cartridge (I have 5 .44 Mag. guns) and have been reloading for it since I got my first .44 Mag. in '86 (a beautiful M629). When I started loading for this cartridge I worked up to some pretty stiff (max.) loads but now I'm liking heavy Special loads in Magnum cases or light Magnun loads (gettin' old I guess). I've used nearly all the "normal" powders for reloading (2400, Bluedot, Bullseye, H110/W296, AA9, a lot of Unique, Universal, WC820, and now playing with TrueBlue. Great cartridge to reload...
