looking to buy bulk 357 mag ammo...

I am looking for a good fairly cheep ammo in 357 magnum. I will be using it for emergency/self defence and may be hunting from a carbine.

What ammo would work best as general use? Looking for 1500-2500 rounds.

all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well...

Why does it have to all be the same? For self defense it's optimum to limit penetration and for hunting it's just the opposite.

I'd get some 125 grain jhp because nothing matches it for defense.
For hunting you want a heavy hard cast bullet for penetration from Buffalo Bore, Corbon, or Double Tap.

And you may want some .38 special because they are cheaper and fun for just shooting at targets or soda cans.

Exploit the versatility of the .357.

Get into handloading.
For what you pay for 1500 to 2500 rounds of factory ammo, you can get a basic setup and make two to four times that much yourself - plus, it will all be premium grade, not some shoot em up bulk crap.

Agreed. Reloading is the way to happiness in this case.

Lots of choices here. Looks to be about 40 cents a round
and up for the better stuff. Ammoman sells by the case
and has free shipping.

I do reload but I only have a single stage press so it is a pain. Also premium bullets like Speer gold dots are about 30 cents per round. Then add in the price of buying brass (not to mention powder and primers) and the price of factory ammo is not to bad.

I reload with a hand press... my .38 and .357 counts are well into the thousands. Rocky Mountain Reloading makes very good JHPs that are well less than 20 cents each (don't remember what I paid last time). I don't see them on the site right now, they come and go.

Check out Swiss made RWS ammo. You can get deals on cheap 1000 packs online for JSPs, although they can be hard to find. You probably don't really need 2,000 JHP$...

GA Arms is a quality small ammo manu also.
