the "tactical" barrel has a standpff devoce for breeching doors. is is used to jam into the door hinge and blow out the hinges and/or locks. it is vented and sharp to prevent any barrel blockage and ensure a good hold on the door frame

Is the total length of both of the barrels the same .?

Is the pattern still the same ? choke ??

The reason I ask is that I am looking a home defense shotgun and the tactical barrel mode is available to me and the standard is not ... currently ?

Marketing. There's no such thing as a 'tactical' anything.
"...is available..." They're silly, but being available is important. It's purpose is to look scary. The really important part is that it's a good, reliable shotgun. The rest of it is marketing. You can buy other barrels too.
Both have a cylinder bore choke. As in no choke. Good for slugs, but poor for shot of any size. Unless you're very close. The wad will hold the shot string together over short distances. Buckshot out of a cylinder bore choke is unreliable except at close range.
"...Is the total length of both of the barrels the same.?..." Yep. 18.5". Just remember that you must know where any shotgun sends the shot. You must sight in with the ammo you intend using and practice with that ammo.
This your first shotgun?

I have a double barrel 20 gauge.

Its just that I wanted to get a 18/18.5 auto and can not find a reasonably priced one.

Did find one with a Moss 930 tactical barrel ($478) and thought I might get it.

Its not for shooting birds.
