Remington Nylon 76

I have a Remington Nylon 76 with a black stock, black barrel, and black receiver. I can only find them with a black stock and chrome barrel. Does anybody have any information about the Nylon I have?

Thank you

Have the mohawk brown 76.
It always draws questions at the range.
Traded a turk mauser and a mosen nagent for it.
Always felt a little guilty about that.

I was at the gun show yesterday in KC. Saw a lever action Nylon 66. I thought they were semi auto only. The owner was one of those guys who won't let you handle it if you aren't buying. I don't buy what I can't handle.
I always wanted one of these little guns. I shot one years ago.

The 66 came in about 4 colors I believe. Not sure about the 76 but I know it came in more than one color. Nice guns. Very durable and reliable and light. Not the most accurate but not bad really.

The lever action you saw was in fact the Nylon 76 the OP is writing about.

The Nylon 76 came in 3 colors (Apache Black, Mohawk Brown, and "Standard" (brown stock, blued metal, no diamond inlays).

Brand new, they shot pretty well, but as they aged they would get really loose.

Try: nylonrifles.com. They were able to steer me to replacement parts for a 66. They should be able to help you.

Hmmm...Interesting this thread should show up now. I just took possesion of a family heirloom. Here's a quick and dirty pic of the latest member of my firearms family, a Nylon 66.

These are so light it's easy to see why they are so popular. Not much of a problem hauling this around the woods all day tree rat hunting. It has light surface rust but excellent condition internals and bore. I'll be cleaning it up this week and deciding whether or not I'm going to re-blue it or not.

My apologies for hijacking your thread. Just giddy at finally getting me mitts one of these!

They were very popular among certain groups of hunters at one time. The light weight was the big factor plus the almost indestructable nylon stock was a big thing too. Just don't leave one in a car in the hot sun. They will warp. I saw more than one get ruined that way.

Coon hunters loved them because you could carry a very light rifle with you without any strain. Squirrel hunters liked them too but not quite as much as the coon hunters because they weren't as accurate as some rifles. They spawned a whole generation of lightweight hunting rifles too IMO. It wasn't much later than you could buy 4 or 5 pound .22's for coon hunting, etc.. I don't remember the brand but my brother had one that let you remove the barrel and store it in the butt stock. They were actually very accurate too. I don't remember any super light .22's before the Nylon 66 but there might have been some of course. I just don't go back much farther than the 66 myself or at least I wasn't old enough to remember rifle types at the time.

For Sale: Nylon 76 Black & Chrome

Just found this thread... I (as a twist of fate and luck would have it) just put my Grandfather's Nylon 76 up for sale on Gunbroker's auction site. Direct link is here: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=117061685

If any one is interested, my reserve price was already met, so it's just a matter of whom wants it most!

This is a great little rifle... though my family nor I are enthusists, I can remember my sister and I shooting some squirrels that were bugging my Grandfather's bird nests with this gun when we were younger. It's actually quite accurate and easy to use. Perfect for target shooting and teaching younger ones with.

I had one with the brown plastic stock. Don't know which one of my kids made off with it. I wasnt impressed with the looks, (I'm in to blued rifles with wood stocks.

What I do remember about mine was it was highly reliable and pretty dern accurate. As an accurate everyday shooting semi it is a good as I've found.

If you can get past the looks.
