Too cool FrankenMauser! If you don't mind me asking, what do you use these for?

Here's my contribution for tonight. Load development of 158gr Hornady XTP's in .357 Mag, using Unique.

I don't have a 3"-capable shotgun, so the 3.25" is actually a dummy that was made up for a cartridge collector. It represents a redneck load some people put together to get the equivalent of a 3.5" mag in a 3" chamber. By heavily skivving the hull, it can (in their minds) theoretically be safely fired in a 3" chamber, because of the thinned mouth. (I wouldn't do it.)

The little guys are just "optimized" general-purpose loads.
Their intended purpose (the reason I started messing with them) is for hunting grouse and chukars with a few extra rounds in the shotgun. But, they're pretty much a direct replacement for standard 7/8 oz loads, in any shotgun that will feed them. Without a shot cup (just a gas seal and cushion wads), the 2" version can launch up to 1 oz of shot with room to spare.

Standard 12 ga hull lengths date back to the days of black powder, when the powder charge often took up just as much room as the payload (shot/slug).
With modern components (excluding waterfowl loads), a substantial portion of a 2-3/4" hull's capacity is wasted. It's just dead space - usually taken up by excessively long wads or gas seals. You can get rid of a lot of that dead space, and still retain a fair amount of "cushion" for the payload, by going to 2" or 2-1/4" hulls - depending on the intended purpose and/or feeding reliability (the 1-7/8" shell is pushing the limits of hull capacity with payloads over 5/8 oz).
The loaded "shorties" are just as heavy as an equivalent 2-3/4" load, but don't take up as much space.

My new case trimmer came in today, so I'm prepping 30-30 brass while I wait for some cast bullets to arrive.

I'm going to try some 165 gr cast bullets over 7-10 gr of Unique.

Hopefully they arrive tomorrow and I can test them out before Hurricane Sandy shows up.

38's and 9mm's. Nothing fancy just plinking fodder. Got a new M&P 9mm on the way, will be doing some load workups next week to see what kind of groups I can get with it. That will be a first for me, never did a load workup for a pistol before

Just got done loading some rounds for my daughter to attempt to take her first Arkansas Whitetail deer this weekend.

20 rounds:
Nosler Partition 60gr .224
H4895 23.5gr
OAL 2.205
CCI SRP
Remington case

She should be able to get one. Can't wait to see her face. All the time reading and reloading and practice time at range will all be worth it. She the reason I got into reloading anyway, just for this weekend.

Have been working on the 'perfect' load for the 124gr FP 9mm rounds(plated Berry's bullets). Think I've gotten close. Last batch was 5.7gr of Power Pistol with Federal primers and OAL of 1.116. They sure shot nice. Good report, nice push, and holes in the center of the target . Wish I had a chrono now to dial in the last few tenths.
Just polished up a bunch more brass to prep and prime for the next rounds. Going to roll 5.8gr of Power Pistol on these next 10 and maybe some 5.9gr and then see how the targets and brass look.

I love Unique for target shooting the 115gr RN but Power Pistol does seem to be doing a better job with the 124gr FP (which leave less volume for powder).

Hey JW ... good luck to you and your daughter!!!

Today... I will be loading some 308 win hunting loads. I completely forgot to load some up when I shot my supply up.
Hunting is two days away.
I better get after it.

Oh yesterday I did these.

Just got one of the new Talo LW Commander 38 Supers. Been having some trouble with my lead bullet loads going completely into battery.
Decided to try some 115gn Precision Delta FMJ bullets I have. I have had trouble with them before in my Starline 38 Super cases. Not enough case tension to hold the bullet securely.
Went back to my Lee Classic Turret today. Sized and deprimed with my 38 Super die. Ran the case mouth about 1/4" into my 9mm sizing die, without the deprimer. Screwed the expander/flare/powder thru die out until it barely flared but dropped a full powder charge. Seated the bullet and removed the flare with the seating die. Can't move the bullet in the case now.
I loaded 9 of these to try out the next time I am out. Don't know if I can duplicate this procedure on my LnL AP or not.

Around 2900 in cool weather. 59.0(c) will get to 3K in July (powder temps in the 70's), but beats the hell out of the cases. I backed it off a grain.

C.O.L I'm using is 3.270.

I was always going to get around to working up an RL22 load, but got to messing around with making reduced recoil and practice loads for the kids' rifles and never got around to it. This one works pretty well, with good terminal performance on deer from 10 yards to farther than I want to shoot at them these days (less trigger time than I used to get...... kids are time intensive).
