.357 mag factory load for hog?

Going to use a .357 mag with a six inch bbl on a hog hunt. As I don't reload I'll be using factory loads. What's a good choice for hog? Distance should be under 50 to 75 yds. I've heard good things about Cor Bon DPX. All copper bullets. Any help will be appreciated.

With a .357, I'd prefer a solid bullet over a HP. Any of the good JSPs would work.

I've killed a couple hogs with hard cast handloads running very fast. Remember, with a hog, you need quite a bit of penetration. Thats mainly why I use cast .357's on hogs so I know it will go all the way through. Now, for my .44mag's, I use Honady XTP 300gr bullets. They produce massive amounts of damage on a hog.

I've used Buffalo Bore 180gr. LFN-GC & Federal Fusion 158gr. SP with success.

As a handloader, the XTP is my default big game bullet. I'm sure Hornady has hunting ammo available with this bullet in .357. I'd go with the 158gr or heavier bullet.

I use the Winchester 145 grain Silver Tip Hollow Point (STHP) in my Ruger GP-100. When carrying a factory round, that is.

I would agree with this.

Another thing to look at is the Hornady 140 grain FTX in .357 Magnum. You will get increased velocities and good expansion.

I hunt with a 357 mag a lot. Before I started reloading I used buffalo bore 158 and 180 grain loads. Double tap also has a 200 grain load that is good.

all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well...

357

I really prefer a SJSP 44 Magnum. I've never taken a hog wit a 357 without hitting it 4 times. It scared me a little so I went to a 44.

I use the 150 grn. Lyman 358477 LSWC in my service revolver when I was in LE.

I've put down several moose at traffic accidents, even killed a buffalo with it.

I used the same bullet in my 642 to put down a horse.

Its a good bullet.

BUTT: you don't reload, NO Biggie, Winchester Makes an excellent LSWC 158 grn, load in both 357 and 38.

Find some of those and you'll have an excellent hog load.

I would not use a hollow point on hogs. A flat nose or hard cast would be best.
