This impressed me!
I am a college student, I go to Western Michigan University.
The school, once a month sends out a catalog that talks about different issues as well as what's going on at the school campus. In the most recent issue, a WMU Sociology professor made a strong argument against any new firearms regulations, he was succinct and logical. I was proud that my University, which are usually held up as bastions of big-government liberalism; was bold enough to put into print the common sense ideas of this prof. So cheers to WMU! |

Your professor had a lot of cheek to stand up and espouse what is obviously a very isolated position amongst his peers these days. I'm sure that he will be roundly vilified for it, but he sounds like the kind of guy that just might have what it takes to weather the storm. Good for him and for WMU!

You don't have to be a conservative to be a standup professor for the RKBA.

At my school, the office of student activities hosted a "debate" between the Young Democrats and the College Republicans on the issues of gun control, and the AWB specifically. The school paper hyped the debate for about a week before hand.
And it was a blood bath of Little Bighorn proportions for the Young Democrats. The school paper said nothing of it the next press date, but the next day, in color, the local town paper had a big picture above the fold of a couple of us, in all our bowtied glory, belaboring some point or another. I was proud of my school for letting us debate it, but not so much the student run media.

I can't find a link to the article in question, it seems to only have been printed in the school newletter, but the man is here: http://homepages.wmich.edu/~crawford/index.html
His arguments were basically this: He said that he understands people feel the need to "do something" and that it's easiest to blame the object (in this case the Gun.) He says That it's pointless to remove certain weapons because people will always find a lethal substitute. He specifically mentions bombs would possibly come into the fray. He mentions how the vast majority of crimes have nothing to do with "assault" weapons. He also points out that hardening the target is probably the best way t prevent this sort of thing and specifically mentions outdoor long range cameras which could identify threats quickly and alert first responders, he does not elaborate on this though. He finishes the piece by stating that most mass murders are stopped when the murderer-to-be tells someone who reports their plan. Pretty typical arguments for someone well versed in this debate but amazing, to me, for being published in a school magazine. Bravo to Dr. Charles Crawford and bravo to the magazine editor! |

You and other students might want to organize, in order to support him if the powers that be try to harass him for speaking out.
