Making a target range for 22 shorts

MAKING A TARGET RANGE FOR 22 SHORTS
I have a basement and wondered what distance is good for shooting shorts in a rifle. Will be using a Winchester 06 rifle. Suggestions welcome. Thanks Ron

Your biggest issue will not be a back stop but rather airborne lead contamination

.22s penetrate really well.
So, you will definitely need a suitable backstop.
And some way to clear the air.
12 inches or so of phone books works for a backstop, at least until they get chewed up.
Suitable distance depends on the size of the target.
If the neighbors don't mind some gunfire noise, a large fan in an external window, at the far end of the range, helps to remove contaminated air.
But air guns work better inside a house.

I would take lead contamination very, very seriously and urge you not to do this!

Especially if you have kids! Also, you do not want to contaminate you home for the next owner, especially if they have children.

My doctor told me had 2 patients who did have lead poisoning, and one of them had to go for lead treatment, which I understand its own dangers. They were both range officers.

Here is an article on lead and shooting:
