Petition to correct the White House website on 2A

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pet...ution/QmQ5xKzV

On the whitehouse.gov website, The summary of the Second Amendment is as-follows:

Quote:
The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms.
Please join to have this under-addressing of the meaning of the Right corrected.

Where's the petition? If the link is supposed to take us to a petition, I didn't see anything on that page the resembled a coherent petition. An objective reader would look at that and ask what the heck it's talking about.

The sad thing is, the White House isn't that far off. The difference between The People and Citizens is pretty close to arguing semantics

They'll just add some language like "when serving in a state milita" or something self-serving along those lines.

The use of "Citizens" is only part of the problem. The largest error in the White House text is that the Second Amendment gives NOTHING to the people. It only affirms that people have a natural right. If we say that the government gives us something, then it means they can take it away. The language of the Bill of Rights was specific so that this won't happen.

The other problem with what the White House has written is that it only covers HALF of the Second Amendment. We have the right to "bear arms", but we also have the right to "keep arms". I believe the SCOTUS has affirmed that these are two distinct components of the Second Amendment.

We don't do online petitions.
