10/22 Bolt Handle Assembly

Can anyone recommend a bolt handle and recoil spring assembly for a 10/22 ? Midway has them for anywhere from $ 50.99 to $ 6.99.

I'd like to replace the factory assembly with something better but I don't think I need titanium, ect.

The rod appears to have a couple of small indents to prevent the handle from flying off under pressure from the spring. Evidently those indents have been worn down because there is little or nothing there to keep the handle on...

You can reindent it. Not a big problem or get a new from Ruger or Gun Parts Corp.
Something you can do is get a 22 mag handle and just using the handle put it on your guide rod and use the old spring, bigger contact area.

Thought about reindenting it...not sure how I would go about it though.

Just seems like there are some aftermarket 10/22 parts that out perform Ruger parts...I thought that might apply to the bolt handle assembly too...

I have eight Ruger 10-22's, and some of them have the indent completely remove, by me. The rifles function perfectly well with the bolt handle not captured by the indents. You just have to be careful to hold the assembly by hand during the instal. I removed the indents so I could polish the rod so the handle would ride freely over it during the firing cycle.
I changed two handles to the one that Power Custom sells because it extends out farther and is easier to grab when manually cycling the bolt. I tried the higher power spring, the long one, that Power Customs sells and can't see much difference between it and the factory spring.
There are some really neat bolt handles being made that you might want to check out over on Rimfirecentral. IIRC, a guy by the handle "skeeter" makes them.

The magnum bolt handle version is larger and inexpensive. You have to use the orginal spring and cut the magnum rod down to the length of the orginal. To get the indent use a chisel and hammer practice on the original rod then line them up side by side and put the chisel across the orginal and onto the shortened magnum rod give it a smack. Use vise grips or a small clamp to hold the handle and spring and washer out of the way while you work on it.
